Multimodality Imaging Through the Clinical Prism
In this seminar, Dr. Tea Gegenava will underline how multimodality imaging, integrating echocardiography, CMR, and CT refines diagnostic precision and risk stratification across diverse cardiovascular pathologies. Highlighting research from LUMC, Stanford University, and Amsterdam UMC, She will cover key insights in valvular heart disease, cardiovascular involvement in autoimmune diseases, non-compaction cardiomyopathy, and the athlet’s heart.
Dr. Tea Gegenava, MD, PhD, FESC, is an Assistant Professor and a practicing cardiologist and multimodality cardiovascular imaging specialist at Tbilisi State Medical University. An alumna of Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) and former research scholar at Stanford University School of Medicine, she completed her PhD in cardiovascular imaging at LUMC and underwent advanced training across Europe and the United States.
Her research centers on advanced multimodality imaging, with a focus on valvular heart disease, structural heart interventions, cardiomyopathies, athlete’s heart, and cardiovascular involvement in autoimmune and systemic disorders. At LUMC, Dr. Gegenava led the team that pioneered MDCT Feature Tracking strain analysis in Europe. At Stanford, her team spearheaded early work on AI-driven, CT-based cardiac plane prediction.
An active contributor to international collaborative research, Dr. Gegenava has presented at major global congresses (ESC, AHA, ACC) and published in top-tier journals. She serves on the Editorial Board of JASE and reviews for leading journals, including EHJ Cardiovascular Imaging and JCCT, JASE. Her honors include two Paul Dudley White International Scholar Awards and multiple educational awards from ESC, including Fellowship Award (2017–2019).
Dr. Gegenava has over a decade of teaching experience with international medical students at TSMU and the Emory University School of Medicine (Tbilisi branch), and has served as an invited professor at the University of Chester School of Medicine (UK).
